Note | Geoffrey renovated a number of houses in the inner Sydney area. He renovated one at Glebe, and sold it. His last renovation was his house at Mosman. He would do all the work usually done by trades people - brickwork, cement work, carpentry, painting, landscaping, tiling, floor laying, wood finished etc. His renovated houses were always sympathetic to the original style whether Federation, Italianate, etc, and his interior decorating was always tasteful. He would use four or five colours in each room, painting each strip of a decorative cornice a different colour. The results were very beautiful. Geoffrey was however, colourblind, so sometimes had to get advice on what colours to but for paints and clothing, and interior decorating. The cusinaire blocks that he used in teaching primary children had their colours written on them so that he could distinguish them. Geoffrey was also a very good cook and held sumptuous dinner parties on his north facing verandah overlooking Balmoral and Middle Harbour in Mosman. He planted his whole back yard with mainly native plants so there was no lawn left. Many nectar eating native birds wouldfeed on the flowers of these plants, and lizards such as blue tongues made their home underneath the cover of all the foliage. It eventually became a tiny piece of bushland in a suburb known for it's clipped hedges, tight lawns and formal gardens. |
