He was described as living at Railway Street, Merewether, Hunter, New South Wales, Australia, aged 21, height 5 foot 6 inches, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes and Methodist religion. He embarked on 2 Nov 1915 and was taken on strength to Tel-el-Kebir in Egypt arriving on 14 Feb 1916. On 23 Mar 1916 he embarked from Alexandria and disembarked at Marseilles on 30 Mar 1916. He was received a gunshot would to his left foot in France on 26 Jul 1916 and embarked for England at Calais on H.J. Brighton on 16 Aug 1916. He was admitted to Nth Evington Military Hospital, Leicester on 16 Aug 1916 and transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital at Harefield, England on 17 Oct 1916. He was discharged from the 1st Auxiliary Hospital on 30 Oct 1916. He was admitted to the 1st Canadian General Hospital on 10 Sep 1916 and discharged on 30 Oct 1916. He was sent to Weymouth on 4 Nov 1916. He was sent back to France from Folkestone on 8 Feb 1917 per SS Invicta and rejoined his unit on 13 Feb 1917. He went missing in France and was captured as a POW at Bouraies France on 15 Apr 1917. He was interned as a POW in Limburg Germany. On 1 Dec 1918 he was repatriated to England and was granted an extension of leave from 4 Jan 1919 to 6 Jan 1919. He returned to Australia on board 'Nevassa' embarking 5 Mar 1919 and disembarking 26 April 1919. His service number was 2183. His discharge certificate was numbered 89233. He received the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. |
