Text: Mary was transported to Australia on the ship 'Earl of Liverpool'. The port of departure was London. The master was F. B. Manning and the surgeon was David Thomson. After a voyage of four months and two days, the 'Earl of Liverpool' arrived in Sydney. The vessel had embarked 90 and disembarked 88 female convicts.
The entry in the indent shows her as Mary McCallum or McKinnon age 29. She could read and was of Protestant religion. She was married with a family of three. Her native place was Argyllshire in Scotland and her calling was described as 'All Work, Washes, Planework'.
She was five feet one inch high, had a ruddy complexion with freckles, hazel eyes and brown to grey hair.
Apart from the indent, no other records exist for the 1831 voyage of the 'Earl of Liverpool'. It is most likely that Mary's three children came out on the same voyage with her. They are referred to in the records of the Orphan School in the same year.
On arrival, on 5 Apr 1831 Mary was assigned to Colonel Snodgrass of Sydney

The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary

10 Sep 1833
Sir
I have the honour to state that about fifteen months ago I was obliged to return into the factory my assigned servant, Mary McCallum, per ship Earl of Liverpool; she being pregnant. She had a child about a months afterwards, and pronounced my assigned servant, Henry Pope, to be the father, which was at once acknowledged by him. About six months ago, Mary McCallum returned by application to my service upon an understanding, that arrangements had been made by the parents to put out the child to nurse; but it was so unwell, that its death must have been the immediate result; but it is now a healthy child of abour fourteen months old, and is a great annoyance in my house. The father I was obliged a few months since to return to government for general negligence; but he is now due for a Ticket of Leave which I have recommended for him, and did not withdraw. Under these circumstances I am most desirous to be relieved from the burden of this child, and hope you will be pleased to grant authority for its being received into the orphan school, although I consider, that the father, upon his getting of his ticket of leave should be obliged to pay for the support of the child, or not get it; but I believe he has declared his wishes to do so, and being a taylor by trade, he can well afford it.
I am Sir
your obedient servant
K. Snodgrass
