In Dec 1819, John Posick was permitted to marry Mary Stanton. They married at St Johns church of England. John signed with his X mark. Two months earlier John Powcett andMary Stanton sponsored the birth of Winifed Murphy. To formalise their marriage in the eyes of the Catholic Church, John 'Stanton' re-married Mary Stanton on 10 Oct 1829 at St. Mary's Cathedral, Sydney.
