Text:

To His Excellency Sir Thomas Brisbane...
The Memorial of Laurence Halloran, Doctor of Divinity of the King's College, Aberdeen and Master of Sydney Grammar School.
Very respectfully setteth forth.
That your memorialist has, during the last five years, conducted an extensive establishment for classical education in the town of Sydney.
That since the lamented deceased of the late wife of memorialist, in the month of October last, by the negligence and profusion of his servants, the expenses of memorialist's household have been increased to the extent that of between three and four pounds per week, beyond the amount of his previous disbursements; and that he is consequently threatened with serious involvements and embarrasments.
That, for the prevention of such embarrasments and for the proper care and instruction of his numerous infant family, your memorialist find indispensable to endeavour to engage some person of character and integrity to superintend his domestic concerns and that, considering not very probable that hirelings will show the necessary regard to the interests of his family and establishment, he has selected a young person whom, and her parents he knew in England, who has been educated under the direction, and example of a prudent, respectable mother, who has been will instructed in the proper arrangements of the domestic economy of a family, and whom with the consent of herself and her parents, of which a certificate from them is appended, your memorialist is desirous to make his wife.
Your memorialist therefore, respectfully requests that your Excellency will be graciously pleased to grant your special licence for the celebration of his marriage according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England, with Miss Elizabeth Forester Turnbull, the party designated in the annexed certificate.
Phillip Street Sydney, 28 Jun 1824
...
