Both William and Samuel sent Memorials dated 28th June, 1820 to Governor Macquarie requesting grants of land. In William's Memorial, he wrote; "The Memorialist having now attained the age of majority humbly solicits your Excellency for a grant of land and which it is his intention to improve and cultivate by his industry for his future maintenance and support." Samuel's Memorial stated "This memorialist is 19 years of age and having never received any indulgence, he presumes to solicit your Excellency for such portion of land, such as is usually allowed to youth of the Colony.
In the Sydney Gazette of 12th May, 1821 the names of Samuel Perkins, William Perkins and their step-father James Turner were included in a list of persons who were to receive grants of land in that year. All three received grants on Currency Creek dated 30th June, 1823 although it was 21st April, 1825 before the actual grants were advertised as being available for collection from the Surveyor General's Department. The availability of Samuel's grant was re-advertised on 1st September, 1825. The land granted to Samuel Perkins and James Turner has been identified as Portions 45 and 46 of the Parish of Currency. On 30th August, 1822 James Turner mortgaged his land and stock to Mary Hoadley for £100 with a proviso for redemption if the money was repaid by 1st January next, failing which a power of sale would take effect. While there is no registered record of a similar transaction in regard to Samuel Perkins' land it appears that there was such a transaction because, on 23rd September, 1839 Mary Hoadley transferred ownership of both farms to Charles Whitney.
