Text: He arrived in Australia 1792 aboard the ship Pitt as Sergeant in the NSW Corps. His wife Ann sailed with him. Also on the ship was Captain Joseph Foveaux, a bachelor and one of the most senior NSW Corps officers. Sometime after landing (probably about 1794) Ann Sherwin left her husband for Foveaux, returing with him to England in 1810. Their marriage there in 1815 appears to have been technically bigamous.
