Buried St Thomas cemetery, West Street, North Sydney. An Act of Parliament in 1967 designated the area as 'community land' and the Cemetery was handed over to North Sydney Council. The conversion of the Cemetery to Rest Park in the early 1970s was the Council's first heritage project and the Rest Park was reopened in 1974. William's gravestone was not found on personal inspection of the cemetery in 2005. The park is mostly grassed over and very few headstone remain.

DEATH OF OLD IDENTITITES. Mr. George Frederick Dixon, at one time a well-known figure in wool circles, died last week at his residence, North Goulburn, aged 92 years. The deceased was a Yorkshireman, and arrived in the colony in 1840. He was form many years associated with Messrs. Campbell (Campbell's Wharf) as buyer and classer, and will be remembered by many of the older generation of pastoralists as a prominent wool expert. Among other wools for the classing of which he was responsible were those of Havilah (Mudgee) and Messrs. Chisholm (Morpeth District). He was married in 1845 and was pre-deceased by his wife a few years. Though his five children three died in infancy, only two daughters surviving him, his descendants comprise 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

MRS. ELEANOR WELLS. The death occurred at her residence 12 Edward Street Garfield on Wednesday night following a short illness, of Mrs Eleanor Wells, 89, an identity of the Goulburn District. The daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Dixon of Sheffield, England, Mrs Wells was born at Miller's Point, Sydney, but had spent the greater part of her life in Goulburn and the surrounding districts. Her father, who took up business as a wool buyer on his arrival from England, finally settled at Canberra where he took up grazing and soon became one of the most prosperous of the landholders in that district. After living at Canberra for some years the late Mrs Wells settled in Goulburn about 50 years ago and for the past 30 years had been living in Edward Street, Garfield. She could recount many exciting tales associated with the bushranging days, her father having been held up and robbed by Bushranger Dunn on the Breadalbane Plains. She is survived by six sons, Mr G. Tihman (Goulburn), Mr S. Tinham (Liverpool), Mr C. Tinham (Goulburn), Mr F. Wells (Bungonia) and Mr C. Wells (Sydney); and three daughters, Mrs Barnes (Belmore), Mrs Orr (Parramatta) and Mrs Farrell (Kensington). She also leaves several great-great grandchildren. The funeral left her late residence for the Church of England portion of the General Cemetery, where Rev. D.A. Garnsey officiated at the graveside.
