Dyson Poast's wife, Mary, followed him to Australia as a free settler and travelled on the ship Aeolus arriving Sydney on 26 January, 1809. The ship was originally intended to sail in convoy with the Admiral Gambier but was delayed in Rio De Janeiro.

That Your Excellency's petitioner came free in this colony per ship Aeolus.
That by recommendations she brought into this colony she obtained from Lieut. Governor Paterson the written grant of thirty acres of land situate in the District of Richmond.
Most humbly prays Your Excellency will be graciously pleased to sanction the above grant for which petitioner shall as in duty bound for ever pray
