Memorial to Governor
|
Address: "To His Excellency Sir Thomas Brisbane H.C.B. Captain General and Governor in Chief, in and over His Kamjesty's Territory of New South Wales and its Dependencies The Memorial of William Heylin of Evan - prisoner of the Crown Most humbly and respectfully setteth forth That your Excellency's Memprialist came to this Colony in the ship Baring the 2d in the year 1819 under the unfortunate circumstances of transportation for fourteen years. That he is married and has a family of three children. That your Excellency's Memorialist was placed in the Government school at Castlereagh as Master in the year 1821 and since that period has continued to discharge the duties of his office to the entire satisfaction of the Reverend Gentleman under whom he is placed, and having by industrious economy obtained a little property he is extremely anxious to secure it for the benefit of his infant family and Memorialist's wife being unhappily a prisoner like himself the little means he is possessed of is now so exposed and liable to the machinations of designing individuals who may be aware of his situation. That he is induced as a supplicant to approach your Excellency for such a participation of liberty as will enable him permanently to secure his prosperity and whittle him to the rights and privileges of a free subject and as Memorialist's character has been unimpeachable in this Colony and his conduct been marked with uniform decorum and propriety he humbly prays your Excellency will deem him worthy of your benign consideration and indulgence. Therefore memorialist most humbly Respectfully solicits your Excellency to take his circumstances into your gracious consideration and be kindly pleased to Grant to Memorialist the great indulgence of a conditional Pardon! ..." "We know Memorialist to be a very sober, honest industrious character. Henry Fulton J.P. [other signature illegible]" |
