OLD MAN KILLED BY TRAM.
William Richard Eury, 84, of Moore Park
Road, Paddington was crossing George-street,
near the Town Hall, yesterday when he was
knocked down by a tram, suffering a fracture
of the skull. He died while he was being taken
by the Central District Ambulance to Sydney
Hospital.

MR. W. R. WURY.
Mlr. William Richard Eury, who was
killed by a city tram last Thursday, was a
native of Parramatta, and for many years
was a well known figure in this district.
Hle was 84 years of age. Entering the
Government service in 1882, he was at
tached to the staff of the State Children's
Relief Department (later the Child Wel.
fare Department), and was made chief
inspector in 1896. He retired in 1915.
In his early years he was prominent as
cricketer, particularly as a bowler, with
leading Parramatta and Sydney teams. He
was a foundation member of the Parra
matta Alfreds, an exclusive club of some
sixty years back, and he claimed to have
played in the first match that took place
on the Sydney Cricket Ground. When he
visited Parramatta recently he proudly ex
hibited two medals which he had won for
bowling while a member of the Warwick
Club in 1877. He is survived by a son
his wife died some years ago. The remains
were cremated last Friday.
