Obituary. MRS. ELIZABETH MOBBS. It is our regretful duty to again record the death of another old resi- dent of Orange and district, in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Mobbs (at the good old age of 85 years), which took place at the Steam Engine Hotel on Wednesday afternoon, from senile decay. The deceased lady was born at Parramatta, and in 1851 she cross- ed the Blue Mountains and settled on the Turon River, where she conducted an hotel during the time of the great gold rush. She was a most interest- ing personality, and it was always a pleasure to hear her relate her early experiences in the old digging days. Later on she removed to Parkes, where her husband predeceased her about 24 years ago. She then remov- ed to Cargo, and from that time till her death she remained with her only daughter, Mrs. Thompson, now pro- prieotress of the Steam Engine Hotel. The deceased had been bed-ridden for five years, but she never complained, and was cheerful right up to about three weeks ago, when she took a sudden turn for the worse, and never spoke again. A coincidence in her demise is that she died on 1st Decem- ber, and was born on January 1st. She was a daughter of the late Thos. Best, owner of Tanmangaroo Station, near Yass, which is still held by her relatives of that name. The sons are: Messrs William (Barrengun), John (Condobolin), Charles (Parkes), and Harry (Cargo). The funeral took place yesterday, the remains being in- terred in the C.E. cemetery, Canon Taylor officiating at the graveside.
