Text: Until her marriage, Charlotte had lived at the Female Orphanage, and had for the previous five years been apprenticed to a schoolmaster at Parramatta, John Eyre. Eyre had been one of a group of seven from the London Missionary Society who had been forced to leave Tahiti in 1810. In reward for her diligent service at the Orphan School, she was given a 'good young cow' as a wedding present. The witnesses to the marriage were the bride's new stepfather Thomas Thompkins and the groom's married sister Mary Dale.
