There were two floods in 1809. The first resulted in property & crop damage, but no loss of life. The second, on 31 Jul-1 Aug, drowned 8, & some of the bodies were never recovered for burial.

Shared note:

William and seven others drowned in the /Nepean River near Windsor during a flood. He was returning home after purchasing horses for the Government when the accident happened. Elizabeth now aged 31, was left with 6 children, t he younge st being just a few months old.

[Green Hills, comprising in 1809 a Church, Government Stores & a wharf, was renamed Windsor by Government Decree dated 8 Dec 1810].

Until her marriage, Charlotte had lived at the Female Orphanage, and had for the previous five years been apprenticed to a schoolmaster at Parramatta, John Eyre. Eyre had been one of a group of seven from the London Missionary Society who had been forced to leave Tahiti in 1810. In reward for her diligent service at the Orphan School, she was given a 'good young cow' as a wedding present. The witnesses to the marriage were the bride's new stepfather Thomas Thompkins and the groom's married sister Mary Dale.
