eath of Mr. J. Brogden.
Mr. Joseph Brogden, a very well known
old resident of Parramatta, passed away
on August 10 at the residence of his son,
Church-street, Parramatta. Mr. Brogden,
who was in his 72nd year, was a native of
the town. His father was a cordial-maker,
and for a time the deceased followed that
occupation. The subject of this notice
married Miss Moulds, of Dural and five
children were the issue of the marriage,
two sons and three daughters. The latter
are all married. Mr. Brogden was inter-
ested in sport always, and took a leading
part in the work connected with the estab-
lishment and maintenance of different
brass bands known in the earlier days of
music in the town and district. He was
the drummer in different combinations,
and could generally be seen of late years
officiating in that capacity at any funeral
of any old comrade of similar musical
tastes and reputation. At his funeral on
Monday afternoon a large number of old
band musicians were present, and the cor-
tege attracted a good deal of attention as
it wended its way slowly (and to the
strains of the "Dead March in Saul") to
the Western-road Cemetery.
