Death Notice for Joseph Sherwood published Tuesday, 8 Dec 1942 in Sydney Morning Herald -- SHERWOOD December 7, 1942 at District Hospital, after a long illness, Joseph, beloved husband of Laura Sherwood, of Rouse Hill, aged 72 years.

Sale of Land: 1946/47 by Laura W. (Widow) (Executrix) Parish of Castle Hill, at Rouse Hill, 2 acres 3 roods 32 perches, Lots 32 to 38 and 64 to 66 of Gamback's subdivision (Aberdour Village) N.E. by Adelphi Street.

Taken from "Rouse Hill House and the Rouse" by Caroline Rouse Thornton (1988) published by Caroline Thornton, 18 Doonan Road, Nedlands W.A. - p3 ..."When my father Gerald Terry, took over the management of the property in 1930, no one had ever before tried to make a living out of it......Much of the 1300 acres was still bush, which I remember clearly, and my father combined progressive clearing of this with a busy trade in firewood. He cleared both the dam paddock and the swamp paddock. He also grew crops on the cleared paddocks and built up a dairy herd. From seven or eight cows he built this up to 30, and at times 60 sheep. He was helped by such men as Joe Sherwood, Leslie Dodd and Len Heather......I can remember going up to the bails to watch Joe and the others at work. p179...After 1893 the number of people at Rouse Hill was reduced. Horsely was still a familiar figure around the garden and outhouses, and Kate still reigned in the kitchen. Lizzie Sherwood was the maid. This Lizzie came from one of the districts oldest families. Numerous Sherwood's are to be found buried in the old cemetery at Rouse Hill...."

From the Author's father Gerald Terry..."Joe Sherwood cut wood and was a good cutter. He was of medium height and worked for about 20 years. Arthur Sherwood was more slightly built....... Wages were probably one pound per week plus keep".
