Joseph Harcourt, Thomas Bates, and John Pye, fully convicted at the last Lent assizes for different robberies, but their judgments was respited until the present assize"

Five years after arriving in the colony John was given a 30 acre grant in Baulkham Hills by Governor Hunter. Later additions formed his home 'Pye Farm' near the junction of Old Northern Road and the Windsor Road.

"A labouring servant of John Pye, settler at Toongabbe [sic], was last week corporally punished for brutal treatment towards his master's oxen, and abusive language when challenged. The above John Pye about the same time lost a fine cow, supposed to have died in consequence of eating a noxious herb."

"...John Pye has been an inhabitant of this colony upwards of nineteen years, that he has a wife and eight children which he has hitherto supported by farming - that he has a quantity of stock of his own rearing amounting to upwards of two hundred sheep - fourteen head of horned cattle and some horses but having no pasture land to graze such stock on, and having so large a family, the Lieutenant Governor was pleased to give him the inclosed grant of two hundred acres of land.
That he turned wheat into the stores as follows as payment for two cows which His Excellency Governor Bligh was so good as to promise him as soon as paid for -

December 18th 30 and a quarter bushels of wheat
December 26th 31 bushels of wheat

112 and three quarters all at Parramatta stores.
That captain Putland dying on the 4th January 1808 caused a delay in his getting the order from Governor Bligh for the delivery of his cows and on the 26th his arrest took place which was the occasion of his receiving them afterwards.
Should it meet His Excellency's approbation to restore the above mentioned grant and stock to him again the said John Pye will ne ever grateful.
