Note: Francis and his father (Francis Sr) put their names to a petition of fruit growers which was sent to the New South Wales Parliament. The protest was against what was considered to be an unjust and excessive series of dues charged to any orchardist from outlying and areas who needed to sell their produce in the City Markets. By contrast, produce grown nearer the city incurred much lower rates. Francis and his father (Francis Sr) put their names to a petition of fruit growers which was sent to the New South Wales Parliament. The other two buyers were James Smith, who built the stone house still standing at the Corner (1979) and Edward Maher, whose family for some generations later lived on orchards on the southern portion, near Copeland Road. |
