Alice, her brother Charles, and their parents Strange and Mary arrived in Australia as steerage passengers aboard the ship 'Winnifred' at Moreton Bay on 20 Mar 1875. They were 4 of the total of 86 passengers in steerage. Alice's mother Mary Ann fell on the gangplank as she came ashore and dropped her daughter, who badly injured her spine, causing her to be unable to walk.
