Note: Death Certificate: 1914/17172 - Simon Francis Sherwood (should be - Simon Joseph), Old Age Pensioner, Died 24 September 1914 at Mort Street, Blacktown, New South Wales, age 77 years . Cause of Death: Natural Causes - Probably Heart Failure -- Finding at Inquiry held by Morton Fitzhardinge, Coroner, 30 September 1914. Name and Occupation of father: Joseph Sherwood (Should be Simon), Labourer. Mother's maiden name: Susan Moulds. Certified by Morton H. Fitzhardinge, D.S.M., Coroner, Parramatta.
Note:

BLACKTOWN: Sudden Death - On Wednesday, at the Parramatta Court House, Mr H. Fitzhardinge, S M, Parramatta District Coroner, held a magisterial inquiry touching the death of Simon Sherwood at Blacktown on 24th September. William Robt Sherwood, labourer, living at Blacktown, deposed that the deceased, S. Sherwood, was his father. He lived at Blacktown. Witness and his wife went to see him at about 11 on 24th September. He said that he had a pain in his stomach. They took him to the witness's place. Put him to bed. He seemed to get better then. Witness's wife put hot fomentations to him. He had a drop of tea a little after 12. He died, however, about 1.15 pm. He suffered from a rupture which he had had for years. He was in a hospital four or five years ago. His age was 77 years. He had been a labourer. He was an old age pensioner. Apart from the injury already mentioned, he seemed generally a fairly healthy man. He had no property. His life was insured with the Mutual Life Office for 9 pounds. Constable S R Wilson deposed that on Sept 24 he examined the body of the old man, Mr S. Sherwood. He found no marks of violence about it - it was in a natural position. Noticed a swelling on the lower part of the deceased's stomach. The Coroner entered a finding of death from natural causes..

Note: An "In Memorium" notice was published in the Sydney Morning Herald on 24 Jun 1915 by E. and S. Greenfield (Emily Harriet Greenfield (nee Sherwood) and Sydney Charles Greenfield). There was also an article in the "Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers" newspaper in July 1914, which stated that Simon resided with his son William Robert Sherwood.

Death of a brotherAlfred Reginald Greenfield
June 4, 1961 (aged 47 years)
Text:

On 4 June 1961, police were summoned to the Sydney Domain Baths. A man's nude corpse had been found, savagely stabbed over 30 times, and with the genitalia completely severed from his body. Alfred Greenfield became the second victim claimed by the killer soon to be dubbed "the Mutilator". Alfred Reginald Greenfield a 41-year-old man had been sitting on a park bench in Green Park, just across the road from St Vincent's Hospital in Darlinghurst. MacDonald offered Greenfield a drink and lured him to the nearby Domain Baths on the pretext of providing more alcohol. MacDonald waited until Greenfield fell asleep, then removed his knife from its sheath and stabbed Greenfield approximately thirty times. The ferocity of the first blow severed the arteries in Greenfield's neck. MacDonald then pulled down Greenfield's trousers and underwear, severed his genitals and threw them into Sydney Harbour. William MacDonald died 12 May 2015 at Prince of Wales Hospital aged 90.
