A very pretty and fashionable wedding was celebrated at St John;s Church, Parramatta, on the 22nd untimo, when Mr C W Purnell son of the late C N Purnell (once of Windsor) led to the altar Miss Marcia Pratt, second daughter of Mr. W. Pratt of Parramatta. The church had been tastefully decorated, and about 200 friends of the happy pair assembled to witness the ceremony which was performed by the Venerable Archdeacon Gunther. The bride entered the church leaning on the arm of her father, and looked charming in a gown of cream floral lustre, cream silk and orange blossoms with wreath and veil to match, and carried a large shower boquet. She was accompanied to the altar by four bridesmaids - Miss Pratt and Miss Purnell (in costumes of crepe de chine with silk lace and eau de nil trimmings, carrying beautiful shower boqusts) and the two little Misses Ford (Ruby and Hilda) in cream silk dresses with eau de nil trimmings and picture hats en suite, and carrying baskets of flowers. These, with the other bouquests, were the gifts of the bridegroom. The best man was Mr S. Ford (Annandale), and the groomsmen Mr P.C. Watt, B.A. (Newcastle) and Mr. J. Roach. The happy couple left the church amid showers of rice, rose leaves and slippers. A sumptuous breakfast awaited the guests at the residence of the bride's parents, whena bout 50 sat down, and after justice had been done to the good things provided, "The Bride and Bridegroom" was proposed by Mr. Frazer and responded to by the bridegroom. Other toasts were also honoured in bumpers. A dance was held in the evening, when about 80 guests were present. The bride's travelling dress was electric blue shot silk, brocade trimmings, with hat en suite. The bride and bridegroom left in the evening amidst the good wishes of their many friends, for their future residence, Petersham. Many very pretty dresses were worn by the ladies present - Mesdames Pratt, black lustre, heliotrope blouse and bonnet; Purnell, black crepon, pink silk with black lace, jet trimmings, jet bonnet and pink roses; Fraser (Stanmore) navy blue cashmere, red silk vest and bonnet to match; Husband (Stanmore) black saton, jet trimmings; Sibson (Goulburn), grey cloth, pink satin and chifon; Mudie (Glebe Point), black silk, jet trimmings; N. Radbourne, royal purple and black trimmings; Ford (Annandale) electric blue, shot silk trimmings; Chandler (Katoomba) fawn repp and shot silk trimmings; Taylor (Newtown).....The presents, which were numerous and costly, were displayed in the drawing room, and much admired by all present, and among which were a handsome gilt edged dinner service, afternoon tea and jubilee set from Mr TW Pollock, in whose employ Miss Pratt had for some years held a responsible position.

THE LATE MR. PURNELL.
The Blue Mountains paper says: "quite a gloom was cast over Leura and Katoomba on Wednesday through the very sudden death of Mr. Charles Purnell, storekeeper, of the Mall, Leura. Deceased had been ailing for some weeks past but nothing of a serious nature was expected. On Wednesday morning, he, in company with his wife, called on Dr. Macintosh for medical advice. Entire rest was ordered, and the patient was advised to enter Prince Alfred Hospital, as his condition was critical. Mr Purnell then left his wife and walked to his place of business to make arrangements with his staff preparatory to leaving for the hospital in the morning. A few minutes after arrival at the shop he collapsed, and his employees carried him to a coach to convey him home, but he expired before arrival. The sudden end came as a great shock to his wife, family and intimate friends. Deceased was born in the historic town of Windsor, and was in his 45th year. He came to the mountains about 6 years ago, living at Lawson. Three years later he settled in Leura, working up a prosperous business, being generally liked by all. On Friday morning a short service was held in his home, the Rev. T. Ellison, of Katoomba, officiating, after which the remains were conveyed to Windsor Methodist Church per train, where a service was also held. The funeral then moved to the Methodist cemetery, Windsor, the deceased being interred by the side of his father, who died 27 years ago under exactly similar circumstances. The Rev. Golsnan, of Windsor, officiated at the graveside.
