News 589 words Arising from a struggle between police and a crowd at Bankstown last Saturday afternoon, when a raid was carried out on an alleged starting-price bookmakers, seven men were charged at the Campsie Police Court yesterday. Arthur Purnell, 33, a butcher, and Harold Fairhall, 28, a plasterer, were charged with illegal betting. Purnell, who pleaded guilty, was find 20 pounds, in default 40 days' imprisonment. Fairhall, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded until March 15.' |
