Common law marriage. In 1825 Francis and Ann are recorded working for the Mobbs family as tenant farmers at the Field of Mars. The Mobbs family was reputedly making One Thousand Pounds a year at the time from their orchards. George Mobbs had arrived as a convict and had been employed in the Government Garden where he had obtained orange cuttings from Rio de Janeiro, which he successfully cultivated. His orchards included Apples, Pears, Cherries, Apricots and Peaches. Like many settlers, he fed the surplus peaches to his pigs.
