Email to Marion Purnell Sep 2009 Text: Charles Robert Sydney Jordan "Jock" first came to Sydney as a member of the Royal navy aboard the British Battleship HMS Ramilles during a goodwill visit to Australian shores in 1937. He was 16. During his naval service he saw action in the Atlantic at Malta, Gibraltar, Dunkirk and Murmansk. He was serving aboard the HMS Hermes when she was sunk by the Japanese in 1942, after which he was transferred to the Pacific fleet on loan to the Royal Australian Navy, with which he served until the war's end in Oct 1945. |
