John purchased 5 acres of land in the parish of Severn for £12/10/- at an auction sale of Crown Land. The locality given was 'Lot M, Allotment 3, Section 31.' The Glen Innes and District Historical Society suggest that this area would be part of the present village of Dundee.

In 1885 it was recorded that John had 280 acres at Green Swamp, 17 horses, 25 cattle 360 sheep and 3 pigs.

There died at Tenterfield one of
the pioneers and a most highly
respected resident of the district in
the person of Mr. John Larracy, at
the ripe ago of 89 years, the cause
of death being senile decay. The
late Mr. Larracy, along with his
brother Tom, arrived iu Australia
in the yeur 1856. Soon after his
arrival in Australia he went to
Ranger's Valley, where he resided
for about six years. He then moved
to Green Swamp, Bungulla, and
continued to reside there until 11
years ago, when he came into
Tenterfield to live. He was bed-ridden
for some six months prior to his
death-and had suffered a great deal,
so that his death, though sad, was
a happy release. He is survived by
one brother, Mr. William Larracy, a
sorrowing wife, and 12 of a family,
including Mrs. Michael Kelly
(Lismore) and Thomas Larracy
(Tabulam).
