DEATH OF MR. A. MOBBS.
The Carlingford community is
plunged into grief by reason of the
untimely death of Mr. Arthur Mobbs, the
son of Mr. Isaac Mobbs, of Carlingford,
and a member of one of the largest and
best-known families in the district. At
the early age of twenty-three, Mr.
Mobbs succumbed at 11 p.m., on
Wednesday, to that fell disease diphtheria,
after an illness of only about three
weeks' duration. Dr. Phillips attended
the patient during his last sickness, and
did all that medical skill could suggest
to the insidious foe, but
unfortunately his efforts were powerless
to avert a fatal termination. Mr.
Mobbs was married a few years ago to
Miss Carrie Shields, the daughter of
Mr. W. Shields, of Carlingford. The
funeral — which was entrusted to
Messrs. Metcalfe and Wilkinson — took
place at the Carlingford burial ground,
on Thursday afternoon, and is said to
have been one of the largest ever seen
in the neighbourhood. The Rev. G.
McIntosh officiated, and beautiful floral
tributes were placed on the coffin in
great numbers. Hymns were sung by
the choir of the Church of England.
