Text: She was married at the age of 16 with the consent of her 'guardian and friends'. The witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Tyrie, a painter, and his wife. There were 13 children. The first five were baptised in St Peters Church of England, Campbelltown. The next four were baptised at St Davids Presbyterian Church at Campbelltown. Then in 1852 Elizabeth and her daughter Harriet were conditionally baptised in the catholic church at Campbelltown. After that most of her children were also conditionally rebaptised at St Johns Catholic Church at Campbelltown. Elizabeth died two months after the birth of her 13th child, Alfred, at the age of 42 years. She is buried in St Johns Catholic Cemetery at Campbelltown. The burial plot is surrounded by an old iron and timber fence. The headstone is sandstone and is badly eroded, but the small footstone is still in good repair. This plot was also to be the last resting place for her husband Robert, and also of their grand-daughter Sarah Ann (Thomas and Elizabeths child). |
