Text:

There seems to be some doubt about Anthony's paternity because Rousseau was absent at the relevant period in Norfolk Island. He was on furlough in India from Apr 1806 until Apr 1809 and information from a letter written years later by Mary Sherland, Lucy's daughter indicates that he took his three sons with him. Alternatively, he may have returned to England in 1806 or 1810, where he was discharged. Lucy Lane began a relationship with James Knell or Neil some time in 1807.
