Thomas Markwell was sentenced to death at the 12 Mar 1787 Chelmsford (Essex) Assizes for a burglary. His sentence was reduced to 14 years transportation and he arrived in the colony aboard the ship Scarborough.

And I do further give Notice, that any and every person who shall hereafter encourage the absence of my said wife from her family, will be dealt with as rigorously as the Law will possibly permit.
