Text: James Williams, one of 200 convicts transported on the ship Marquis of Wellington, August 1814. Text: Committed by Habeas Corpus from the County Goal Somerset, living in Shepton Mallet Somerset, married, age 25. Citation details: Taunton Courier, and Western Advertiser - Thursday 31 March 1814 p. 7 Text: "John Noble convicted of sheep stealing, John Harvey found guilty of burglary, and James Williams for horse stealing, the three prisoners on whom sentence of death was passed at the last Dorchester Assizes, have since been reprieved." Citation details: Bound Indentures 1814-1818 Text: James Williams, native of Wiltshire, a labourer, age 26, 5 feet 6 and a half inches tall, dark pale complexion, lt brown hair and hazel eyes |
Marriage

Text: James Williams was sent to Newcastle on the Lady Nelson in 1819 after his marriage. In 1821 James was assigned to Macguire's Gang, 1822 his Petition for a ticket of leave, was re-assigned, his conduct was in question and he was working as a baker. Still in 1822 he had been re-assigned to McGuire's Gang in Sydney and the Rev. G A Middleton requested he be given a pass with his family to Newcastle. 1823 James had his passport issued and on the 1828 Census James was in the employ of G A Middleton at 'Glenrose' Patricks Plain.
