" ... The Memorial of Nicholas Murphy most respectfully sets forth -
That Memorialist's father was in his life time possessed of an allotment of Ground in Pitt Street upon which stood two small Houses and a Forge, which were left by will (a copy of which is herewith enclosed) to Memorialist and Mother, each a Nominal portion, with a proviso that the mother was to have conducted herself with prudence and propriety towards her children, in default of which her portion was to devolve to her Daughter Mary Murphy.
That Memorialist's mother has lately conducted herself in the most dissipated and unbecoming manner perpetually intoxicated from liquors and other strong drink, to sustain such a life of irregularity and profligacy, she has contemplated to sell the allotment of ground in question, to the serious injury of Memorialist and sister.
That memorialist has two sisters married, who have variously and alternately taken their mother to their house and allowed her every necessary comfort together with the full enjoyment of any emolument which might arise from the Tenaments herein averted to, which efforts has proved ineffectual to reclaim her.
Under these circumstances memorialist humbly solicits your Excellency will be kindly pleased to Grant in his name on behalf of himself and sister, a lease for the ground herein stated so as to frustrate any attempt his mother might make and memorialist will every pray.
