JAMES BROWN, Royal Offences > coining offences, 1st July 1812.
550. JAMES BROWN was indicted, for that he, on the 9th of May, feloniously, knowingly, wittingly, and without lawful excuse, had in his custody and possession, a forged bank-note, for payment of 2 l. and another for the payment of 1 l .
To this indictment the prisoner pleaded GUILTY.
Transported for Fourteen Years.
First Middlesex jury, before Mr. Recorder.

"...The Humble Petition of James Brown
Sheweth
That Petitioner came to this Colony by the ship Fortune, Walker master, under sentence of exile for fourteen years. Five years of which he has been in the employ of the Rev. Mr. Marsden as his assigned servant endeavouring by good conduct to merit the approbation of his master.
That petitioner being by trade a shoemaker and having a wife and child to support, humbly trusts Your Excellency will take the length of time he has been in service into your favourable consideration and be pleased to extend unto him the Indulgence of a Ticket of Leave and for such mark of your Excellency's goodness
Petitioner as in duty bound will every pray.
New South Wales
November 27th 1818."
"This petitioner has behaved well, is a married man, and can maintain himself and family if he was indulged with a ticket of leave - I beg to recommend him to your Excellency's consideration.
