pleased to appoint Richard Lewis to be a
Superintendant in the new-discovered Country to
the Westward of the Blue Mountains, under the
Orders of William Cox, Esq. with a Salary of
Fifty Pounds Sterling per Annum, and the usual
Indulgencies attached to the Situation of a Super-
intendant; his Salary, as such, commencing from
the 1st of the present Month of June, and to be
paid from the Police Fund.

That Petitioner was employed some years for Government in exploring the Interior of the Country under the direction of Mr. Evans, Deputy Surveyor General and afterwards in forming Depots on the Lachlan River and on the Wellington; the better to enable John Oxley Esq. the Surveyor General, to proceed on his tour of discovery which service being compleated, Your Excellency was pleased to say that you would locate a Farm to Petitioner at or near Bathurst.
Petitioner having lived at Bathurst upwards of six Years with his family humbly prays Your Excellency to grant him a Grazing farm at or near Bathurst to make him to near his Stock and maintain his family...

"That Your Excellency's Memorialist Received the Indulgence of a Grant of Ground from Major General Macquarie of 100 acres, but at the time the Land Surveyors were measuring Ground at Bathurst Your Memorialist requested to take his Grant 12 miles Distant from the Settlement solely for a Stock Run which request could not be completed with, the surveyors having no directions to measure my Ground distant fromt he Settlement.
Your Excellency's memorialist having a considerable stock viz Three Breeding Mares, 180 Head of Horned Cattle and 1100 sheep, and is confident that Memorialist Grant is inadequate for Pasturage, Your Excellency's Memorialist Most Humbly craves you will be graciously pleased to give memorialist an additional Grant for a Stock Run at the distance from the settlement above stated, under such regulations as in Your Excellency's wisdom may seem necessary..."

"Mr Richard Lewis, a resident of Bathurst, deposed, that he left home about 14 days since. His estate is 29 miles from Rainsville, and is called the Mill post. He had one man killed by the natives. One of his neighbours, a Mr. Tyndall, had 3 men slain, two of whom were burnt to death in their hut. Within 8 years 19 Europeans had been killed by the natives, and 7 of that number had met with a premature destiny from this cruel source, within as many months.""
