"THE LATE MR. WILLIAM ORGAN.
We learn from Mr. J.B. Davis, of this town, that his father-in-law (Mr. William Organ) died at Tilba Tilba about a week ago at the great age of 90 years. The deceased was a brother of the late Mr. George Organ, of Wollongong, and his life career was as remarkable as it was of long duration. He was connected with the navy in his early days, and in the course of that experience an elopement with an admiral's daughter was accomplished by himself and that young lady. They were married, and had a family, of whom the wife of Mr. J.B. Davis was one. Mr. Organ was also married a second time, and the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who survive him may be termed legion. Shortly after the elopement adventure he came to this colony - then Australia or Botany Bay, as it was termed in those days. He was a non-commissioned officer in the 28th Regiment, and in the course of his early colonial experience he was appointed to Wollongong [illegible] of "Government men" then sent to establish a settlement there. Mr. Organ remained in the district in one capacity and another for many years and eventually he wended his way southward, first to Ulladulla district and more recently to Tilba Tilba, where his long life came to an end. He was a grand specimen of a man in the prime of his life, and was strong and healthy throughout his long career. In his early experience of Wollongong, or the Five Islands settlement, as it was then called, he witnessed many scenes that the up-yo-date Illawarra resident has no idea of having ever occurred in this fair district."
