Jessie used her musical gifts as an organist in the Wesleya
Shared note |
Jessie used her musical gifts as an organist in the Wesleya n Church at Reynella before her marriage and later at Franklin Church and then Wintanerta. Following the death of her husband and son in 1898 Jessie was herself in frail health. However, with a natural gift for design and skill in needle craft, she turned these to account as she faced life with her two little daughters, teaching them and imparting to them her love of fine work, so that many homes in Australia have specimens of their handicraft. One piece of fine needle-point lace has a Sturt pea in the design, which Jessie executed in her 78th year, in memory of her uncle, Joseph Cowley, who was with Sturt's party when that strange and beautiful flower was first discovered |
